    Dual Degree M.A./MBA
    Dual Degree M.A./MBA

    The 54-hour MBA/MA in Mass Communication dual degree prepares students for leadership roles in media and communications industries. Completed in 2–3 years, the program combines business and communication expertise. Admission requires acceptance from both participating colleges.

    Thesis Track

    Required Coursework:

    • 3 hours of MCOM 5364 Research Methods
    • 3 hours of MCOM 5366 Seminar in Mass Communication Theory
    • 3 hours of MCOM 5374 Data Analysis
    • 9 to 15 hours of College Elective Courses (course numbers and prefixes may vary; can be in ADV, CMI, COMS, JOUR, MCOM, or PR)*
    • 6 hours of MCOM 6000 Thesis
    *Students may take up to six hours of graduate coursework outside of the college in place of up to six hours of College Elective Courses.

    Professional Track

    Required Coursework:

    • 3 hours of MCOM 5364 Research Methods
    • 3 hours of MCOM 5366 Seminar in Mass Communication Theory
    • 15 to 21 hours of College Elective Course (course numbers and prefixes may vary; can be in ADV, CMI, COMS, JOUR, MCOM, or PR)*
    • 3 hours of MCOM 6350 Final Project**

    *Students may take up to six hours of graduate coursework outside of the college in place of up to six hours of College Elective Courses with approval of graduate advisor.

    Three hours of MCOM 5370 Internship credit is possible under the College Elective Course category with prior approval from the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies. This credit requires a minimum of 160 internship hours as well as weekly reports and a formal final evaluation paper.

    **Students will complete an applied research project focusing on media and communication as a capstone project in their final semester. The 6350 project will be supervised by a graduate faculty member and requires students to orally present their project to the graduate faculty.
