The 30-hour M.A. in Mass Communication offers thesis and professional tracks, preparing students for media careers or Ph.D. study. The thesis emphasizes research, while the professional track focuses on practical skills and concludes with a capstone project.
The College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University offers multiple graduate certificate programs. Certificates can be taken as stand-alone programs or in addition to one of our master’s or doctorate programs.
This program offers full flexibility: students choose where and when to study, with asynchronous online coursework accessible anytime. You can start in any semester and customize your course load, working with the program director to fit your schedule.
The 54-hour MBA/MA in Mass Communication dual degree prepares students for leadership roles in media and communications industries. Completed in 2–3 years, the program combines business and communication expertise. Admission requires acceptance from both participating colleges.

Three hours of MCOM 5370 Internship credit is possible under the College Elective Course category with prior approval from the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies. This credit requires a minimum of 160 internship hours as well as weekly reports and a formal final evaluation paper.
**Students will complete an applied research project focusing on media and communication as a capstone project in their final semester. The 6350 project will be supervised by a graduate faculty member and requires students to orally present their project to the graduate faculty.
